Let me know what you guys think of this motor with the two options installed. I think it could be close to 500 Hp, what do you guys think??

The short block looks pretty much OK; I assume those heads are 74 or 76cc to give that CR... I'd sure put some other cam in it though. Maybe a Comp XE274H and 1.6 roller rockers. The valve springs might need some attention from doing that. I believe I'd also lose the HV oil pump, put a M55A or a M55 with the Mr G #26 spring in it.
The options are very cool.

406 crate engine a assemlby you may buy, and the comment was " change the cam, the springs
and etc." A good buy, and comments be D---
go for it. Remember, its a brand new engine
and not a work in progress.

Just because it's a "crate engine" doesn't necessarily mean it only comes like the web page says. This isn't GM where they build millions of identical ones on an assembly line, it's more like Burger King, so when you order it, have them build it your way instead of the generic way. I'm not suggesting you tear it down and change it yourself, voiding the warranty, since about the only advantage there is to buying a "crate engine" is the warranty.
It's a decent enough basic combo as it is, but with some very minor, near-zero-cost changes, it can be made much better. For what the changes I suggested will cost, they're alot more bang for the buck than the head & roller upgrades, since they'll give you easily 40 more HP for what should be less than $250 additional.

Good point, but I wouldnt even consider the motor without the two options included. That would put me about right where I want to be price wise anyway. I think that changing the cam would be a good idea also. Seems a little small for a 406. Eventually i want to run a miniram of this thing too, I think it should scream. My only concern would be the quality of the work done at that place. I would be comfortable with Sallee, or Scoggin, but I havent heard anything about this place yet. Anyone have any expierience with this place?

i highly doubt that thing would be 500 hp in that form. with options listed, easy. 750 bucks for a roller, holy crap. i would imagine that comes with the springs, lifters, cam, and pushrods. seems like a lot of cash for a roller, but all of the components separate would probably be the same price. that is why i went with the ancient tech flat tappet in mine, $150, hehe.

well that's not bad but i would think you could do better. Get them to give you a quote on just a shortblock with no cam (anything that is 500 and 292 is old and probably sucks). Get a hydroller (500 cam/lifters is about right) and another 200 for pushrods and rockers. You can get the new pro1 dart heads for about 575 each complete and they do move more air than the Sportsman IIs. It will be very close to 500hp with something like that. I would be prepared to spend 4500 without carb and ignition
I have right about 1800 in my 400 shortblock (not counting cam) PS, that is with new 4130 I beam capscrew rods and SRP pistons.
