Can anyone tell me if the Check Engine Light should be on with the key in the 'on' position, but without the car running, if no trouble codes are stored? I have no codes and just reset the computer, only code 12 when checking which is normal.
It's been so long since the car has been 'right' that I cant even remember if this is normal.

Its normal. It is just a lamp test to verify the engine light is working.

 

That's normal.

Forgetting it, however, is not.
