Replacing a Fuel Filter
Replacing a Fuel Filter
I have an '82 Camaro, with an '87 5.7L 350 dropped into it. She's running an Edelbrock 650cfm carb. I recently picked up a new fuel filter from Canadian Tire. It's a simple in-line filter. The one I picked up seems to be a little larger then my old one, not a problem right? My real question is how do I change them, without getting fuel everywhere? I assume clamp the lines and then replace? is that right? Need help!

Before you touch any portion of your fuel system you have to relieve the pressure. This can be done at the schrader valve on your fuel rails if you have the tool or more commonly by removing your fuel pump fuse and cranking the motor until it stalls and giving it another one or two cranks after that for good measure. Fuel will still drop out some when you disconnect the lines so have a catch can, some rags, and a fire extinguisher nearby. Yes I know it sounds overkill and you probably won't need it but even static electricity can set off gasoline so its best to be safe than sorry. Hope this was of some help and good luck.

You can also take the gas cap off. However, the fuel in the lines will still leak out a bit but at least it wont shoot out at you.
