has no one put an external electric on their cars?

i ask this because i posted twice about doing it and no one has responded.

im sure some of the carb people have done it...im not sure if tpi/tbi needs *speciial* pumps that produce a higher psi or what..

im carbed so im gonna give it a shot.....anyone know of a strainer type deal thall fit on 3/8 hose? i plan on just taking the in tank pump out and replacing the length that the pump takes up with 3/8 fuel line/hose.

lot of people have. for carb i'd run mechanical, if i could. if you run external eletric you don't need to do anything to the intank pump, it should pull fuel through it.

with an electric and a carb you're going to need a regulator to cut down the pressure anyways. So it won't hurt it.

way ahead of ya....if i run a carb as it is now with the stock pump id have to have a afpr ive had one for awhile....mallory....3 port design.

also, this is a roller engine......id love nothing more than to run a mechanical BUT did the LT1 cam have a fuel pump lobe? i wasnt paying too much attention to this factor when i put the cam in due to me not caring at the time if it had the lobes or not

Don't know for certain but the LT4 hot cam did, so I would assume the LT1 would

Some people claim that they successfully pull through the stock intank pump but I didnt have much luck. It would suck through it but the pump was working really hard trying to keep up. It made this really weird inconsistent buzz like it wanted to die. BIiZzzzzzzzz--BURRRR-BIZZZZZZZZZZ-----BIRRRZZZZ. I pulled the tank and replaced the pump with rubber fuel line. Now my pump makes a nice steady and much quieter BURRRRRRRRRR noise.

I prefer electric pumps over mechanical but I will say most mechanical pumps are much less likely to fail compared to most aftermarket electrics.

yeah, i just wouldnt bother to try to pull the fuel thru the stock pump with an external pump... just doesnt seem efficiant....i mean most people go and buy a 110 or 140 gph pump and try to pull the fuel thru a pump in the tank?? wtf.....the pump in the tank flows at what...200 liter per hour? thats like 55 gallons per hour......even if it does work....is the area large enough to flow the true 110 - 140 gph? or would you basicly get the power of the 110-140 but you get 60 gph in reality pulling through the pump?

in any event, it sounds like a lazy mans way to be half assed.

im pulling the pump out the tank.....all there is to it.....

and no im not hacking up the back of my car and cutting holes in it to do so......ive come way too far to just do that crap.

here is a good question......what fuel filters will allow a 110-140 gph flow? i doubt the stock filter will.

Russel and Aeromotive make nice straight-thru fuel filters that will handle more than your factory 3/8" fuel lines could ever imagine flowing through them. Be sure to mount the filter BEFORE the pump.

No special rod, just a standard fuel pump drive, actually avalible at 90% of all parts stores. In my dads truck it actaully was a TBI 4.3L that someone converted to a carbed 350 years before he bought it. Once in a while it would vapor lock for no real reason. The fuel tanks started to rot away so we replaced them. When we pulled the tanks down the intank pumps were still there. So Id say pulling fuel through most in tank pumps works, but if you have a higher PSI pump like a TPI it may not pull through it very well.

www.jegs.com/ has all the components you would need just go there and do a quick search.
