Ignition timing tab

Could we sort this out once and for all.....

I´m still not a 100% sure on how the timingtab should be used ?

I´m attaching this picture of how i think it works.

Could you please help me out here..

Thanks.

Seems completely backwards. The passenger side should be the driver's side, the front of the car should be the rear of the car, the slot marked "+8" should be zero, and each mark going up should be 2 degrees (Before Top Dead Center).

If you could get another picture that shows the marks and numbers to the right, that should clear it up.

That was what i thought. What is the timing tab mounted to? But as five7 says, and i agree, in most that i have seen, there are an equal amount, if not more, marks indicating BTDC than ATDC.

I was standing on the passengerside taking the photo.

And the timingtab is mounted on the timingchaincover.

What you have labeled HAS to be the back of the car (aka the front of the timing cover) since there would be nothing for the tab to attach to.

phess has it right - "+" being BTDC, "-" being ATDC.

The "tabs" and "valleys" are not equally spaced. Each tick mark is two degrees, so the tabs are not of equal value.

Remember, he's in Europe.... the driver's and passenger's side deignations might not have the same meaning.
