Sparkplug trouble

Yesterday I changed my sparkplugs out because my car was running a little rough I took them out and found that #6 it looked like someone had pushed the gap all the way down, I dont know if it was like that when it was installed or if there was something that hit it to push it down. I got the new plugs in and the car is still running like a raped ape, it kinda feels like I am not running on all 8 cylinders, the check engine light occasionaly comes on then will go away for a little bit if I shut the car off and restart the car sounds different too. I gapped them at .045 the engine is a 305 TPI, Did I gap the plugs wrong? The plugs are plain AC Delco. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

You mean that the ground strap is pressed up against the electrode?

If so, there's some foreign material in the combustion chamber. It basically causes a dead cylinder.

I would pull the 6 plug out again. If its shorted out again you probably have a pretty serious problem in the engine.

like they said pull the number 6 plug again and check it to make sure it isnt pushed closed again and if it is well you have something wrong in that cylinder but if it isnt there is still something causing the engine light to come on that needs to be taken care of you need to scan for error codes and then see whats going on

That was my old car, This one is a 305 tpi. Would having the gap set to .045 cause a rough idle, and try to stall out when idleing in gear?
