car not as fast as it should be!! help please?!?

I raced a 89 fomula the other day. I only bet him by 2 cars on the first run. 2 1/2 on the second and third. the formula is a tpi 350 flowmaster exaust, chiped, 3.43 rear gears and a shift kit. My car is a 91 rs camaro withe a 355. my mods are .125 domed forged pistons edelbrock rpm performer power package - heads . my heads are world product S/R heads. rebuilt recuvred Hei distriboutor, headers flowmaster 3" cat back with no cat. 700r4 trans. modified valve body and 2500 stall. The rear is a 3.73 posi. The heads, intake and headers are all ported. We both hooked up well off the line. It seems like I should be able to bet him by more than that. What do you guys think. What kind of ponys am I running and what mods should I make to increase them. Thanks

One thing i would say could be causeing ya hp is the stall? 2500 is a bit much for street.
One trick to get a good launch when street racing is to be gentil with the peadal but really make some noise in N so the other guy goose's his car and spins the tires and you rip him off the line with little or no tire spin. Diffret story if your at the track on slicks.

my stall doesn't give me any probs. I can get of the line fine. And I don't want to beat someone because he went up in smoke. I want to win because my car is faster. But thanks anyways

well formula 350s aren't exactly slow. i'd say beatin him by 2 lengths is ok. what do u run in the 1/4? u r runnin a carburator right? i'm guessin by the performer RPM intake.

Eh, I'm with you in thinking that you should be beating him by more than that. The S/Rs don't flow that hot stock, but ported I would think they'd make good power. I'm thinking it's tuning related. How is the distrib setup, you say recurved but by who and for what setup. My freaking MSD Pro-billet distrib wasn't setup particularly good for my setup when I got it... And what about the carb. Vac secs? You messed w/ the springs in the vac sec housing at all? Whats your air intake setup? I'd bet its some small issues like those that are holding you back.

Happen to know the cam specs off hand?

Your stall is great for the street, I don't know where that came from.

Yes, It is carbed. The lift on the cam is .488 and .510. I don't know the duration. What size open element should I be running. I have a stock hood so it can't be to tall. I'm the one that recurved the dist. The spings that were on it were to weak. I have the dist. tuned in perfect. 18 degree's intial and 35 degree's in at 2750. I haven't really messed with the carb exept for the A/F miture. I'm hopeing to put it on a dyno next week. That should tell alot. I guess Then I can go from there. I'm still open to suggestions though. Thanks
