Code 33
i was running the car pretty good trying to get to my house pretty quick. when i got around the corner, my car sputtered and died on me. the only way for me to start her up was for me to give her gas while cranking the car. it'll stay on sometimes, but it's got a nice ticking noise comming from the engine. no vibrations comming from the valve covers, but i do have an exhaust leak on my y-pipe so that might be the ticking noise. anyways, i put the paper clip in and got code 33. i looked at all the vacuum lines and they seem all in tact. im going to discount auto to get a new map sensor incase that's the problem. what do you guys think might be my problem? thanks guys

u can smell gas from outside my car... im assuming it's running rich. i'll check out the plugs in the morning cuz the car's still hot, it's dark out, and the mosquitoes are out in full force.
when i try to put it in drive, it wants to stall out on me, and eventually does. when pressing the brakes while it's trying to stall out on me, i can feel a vacuum problem, i feel the brakes stiffen up. im seriously hoping it's a vacuum problem and not an engine problem since i just got her back about 2 weeks ago from an engine rebuild and i really don't want anything to go wrong =\ thanks vader for your help, i appriciate it

Hello dj haf,
Man, I goofed when I set you that e-mail with the pdf file. For some reason I was thinking MAF and you have a MAP in your car. Anyway, here is the right troubleshooting chart for it.

Have you checked the wiring and vacuum lines. Also check your PCV valve, a clogged or non functioning one can cause a bad idle and stalling.

the pcv valve is pretty new... less than 5k miles on it. the vacuum lines look fine to me as well... im pretty stumped here =\ im worried it might be something internal and im going to be pissed if thats the case... i wonder if this has anything to do with the oil that i would see ontop of my valve cover, the hoses going to the oil cooler, and on the oil filter itself.

Is this oil just on the driver side and have you tried cleaning it off and searching for where it is coming from. Take a look at the vacuum line for the PCV valve. You might also have a torn valve cover gasket or the valve cover could be loose. Does the oil appear to be around the PCV valve or the oil filler cap?

it was only on the driver side by the cap... i bought a new cap replaced the valve cover gasket and it seemed to have fixed the problem... that was 2 days ago when i fixed the oil problem

i connected my laptop w/ datamaster to my car, and i wanted to ask if any of this is normal...
first, my MAP value stays at around 77-80 at idle, but the moment i put it into drive, it goes up past the 80's, into the 90's, and tops out at around 100
same thing with the IAC Pos. as the car idles, it sits at around 43, and gradually goes down to 38... the moment it's put into drive, it jumps around to 160. i don't know if any of this is normal or not, im just posting this information in hopes that someone can help me out.
if there's something i have from the log that i may have left out and would help diagnose my problem, let me know and i'll reply with it. thanks guys for all your help, i really do appriciate it

rpm is around 800 when in park or neutral, and drops to around 600 in drive when the car is running good... now i cant get it to idle right without wanting to die. sometimes she'll stay on for a minute or two, but when put into drive, she wants to stall out, and does, unless i give it gas

i checked it... pcv valve is good. when the car is running and i put my finger under the valve, i can feel the vacuum. i cleaned it out to see if it would make any difference, and it doesn't... what a bad one =\

I don't know if this would apply in your case but it might be something to look at just for sh*ts and giggles. Read the paragraph that is outlined in this picture and pull the connector for the TCC solenoid on the tranny case. It is a four prong connector with three wires in it on the drivers side of the case. See if that will help your stall problem.

hmm... i have noticed something wrong with my vss because sometimes ill be driving and the speedo will go to 0 and the car will rev up about 200 rpms more than what it was previously until the speedo comes up again... and the speedo only comes up when im going 50+mph. ill go take a look at the wire to see if it's loose or something. btw, in the first pic you posted, it refers to a "symptoms" page, 6E3-B... you think you can post that for me or email it? thanks man
