Some miscellaneous questions please help...
You guys have helped me a lot so I wanted to thank you all. Well anyways, I wanted to get a bigger engine in my 92 RS 6 cyl. I was thinking about the 305 or the 350. But what I wanted to know was, what all would I have to buy to switch the engines? Could anyone like give me a list or something? Also, what is the difference between TBI and TPI systems? Which is the better one in terms of power? Also, would I have to change my T-5 transmission for the bigger engine? If so, what manual transmission would you guys recommend? Oh one more thing, Which transmission is faster automatic or manual? Thanks if anyone can help me.
Loaded... but I'll lend my .02.
For a bigger engine, you'd need the engine, the fuel system, and .. hmm I can't think what else right now. Maybe fuel pump?
Throttle Body Injectors have two large injectors sitting on top of the throttle body. Tuned Port Injectors have injectors sitting near the intake valves of every cylinder. TPI is definately better, in terms of power and gas mileage, however.. TPI is a lot more expensive than TBI.
The T-5 tranny was used in v6's and v8's, so you wouldn't have to change that. Maybe the way it bolts up though.. ?? Someone back me up on that one.
Neither autos or manuals are really any "faster." Both have their ups and downs though.
Autos -- pros:
You can worry more about driving than shifting
Much much harder starts/faster shifts
You can powerbreak easier
Easier to drive/better mileage in heavy city stop-and-go traffic
Cons:
Not able to control the gears as well
Fewer gears, first gear doesn't seem to pull as hard (to me, anyways)
Manuals -- pros:
You decide what gear's right for however you're driving
Very simple (well, compared to an auto tranny at least hehe)
Just plain fun
Cons:
Another thing to distract you from driving
Annoying people that like to rest their arms right by the shifter so you can't throw it in fifth.
This is just opinion, though.
