car ran then died, tpi wont hold fuel pressure new afpr.

86 305 tpi I put afpr on and tigtened bolt too much. The car ran choppy and I found out i had it at 70psi! I got ot to 44psi and it seemed to idle better but it still made a putt putt putt noise. It does not hild fuel pressure when the key is on, it only holds pressure when it is running. The gas pedal was not as responsive the power would disapear every now and then and it died twice before it stoped running completley. Now it wont start again and I need a tow home. I guess I messed up the fuel pressure regulator or something else by running it at 70psi and tightening the bolt too tight on it. I also redid ignition timing and wires at the same time but I dont think thats my problem, i got it timed to 6btdc so I dont think thats the problem. Where should I start to try and fix it?

It has a new fuel pump new adjustable fuel pressure regulator new fuel pressure regulator diaphram, and injectors were professionally leak tested and cleaned. Then I ran it at 70psi 15 miles or so back and forth to the alignment shop till I found out I was too high on fuel pressure.

update: Got the car home and checked all fuses, they all look ok. The car gets no fuel pressure and will not start. I connected terminal g and a of the diagnostic thing to the battery and the fuel pump does not turn on, the fuel pump relay box does make a click when I do this. It looks like the fuel pump is not working or its wiring. I have just replaced the pump and driven it like 20 miles! Any ideas?

ok, my new fuel pump was not working, i must have burnt it out. I replaced it with another fuel pump and the car runs the same choppy and i still couldnt adjust the fuel pressure correctly. I took it apart and I had bent the pressure regulator by screwing the bolt down too far again. This is the 2nd regulator i have ruined. I cut the bolt shorter hopefully to the perfect length and will give it one more try. I ruined 2 pressure regulators and 1 fuel pump by overtightening the bolt, i guess i have to be EXTRA carefull with it! These things are not made very user friendly.

You said that you cut a bolt down? From what I understand, there are bolts that are different lengths for the FPR and you have to make sure you remember where they came.

I think he means the adjusting bolt. I had to cut mine on my Crane also.
