rocker arm ratio sbc 400 (406)

talking to a friend that says the small block 400 had a rocker arm ratio of 1.7 - 1 ..... i havnt been able to verify this or prove him wrong ... if hes right im running the wrong rocker arms for my motor ... thanks for the info ... tao

As far as I know all Small block chevy's except for LS1's, dont know bout LT1's, came with 1.5"s.

1.7 is possible, however, not to many people have done it. In MOST cases, its either going to be 1.5 or 1.6 that people are using. Comp offers a 1.52 ratio as well.

Its 1.5 for sure....not 1.7...you can fit 1.6 rollers like I have though.

400SBC is a 1.5 rocker however other ratios cound be had with aftermarket parts

1.7 is possible. I've seen it. You use BBC rockers, which are 1.7 ratio. I even have a book that has a diagram that shows exactly what needs to be done (for a machinist to do though) to the heads for it to work.

But thats what all the big racers did before the higher ratio SBC rockers were available... they just modified the heads to use BBC rockers.
