Speedometer Cable

My speedometer stumbles a little. It's in an 87 Camaro with a mechanical speedometer. Is there a way I can grease or oil the cable so it's smoother?

Grease is not necessarily a good idea. It will not work well in cooler weather. Remove and clean the cable from either end, then apply liberal amounts of graphite as you reinstall it.
