Engine numbers..

I have an 89 camaro which I purchased when it was a year old, we checked with the previous owner of the car to inquire about some overspray which was do to a minor accident it had been in but we also found out that the oil pump had failed and was covered under warranty. Here's the catch...every time I have replaced the V-belt the one the books call for (305 LO3)is too short so I have figured out that one for an 88 will fit. The numbers on the front passenger of the engine which should consist of a variety of STAMPED numbers, some are but the VIN number has been wrote in by hand not stamped like others I have seen. When this car is side by side with an equal camaro I blow it away. Do crate engines have higher horsepower ratings, I assume the engine was replaced when the oil pump failed but which engine is it? I welcome any ideas.

Its possibly a 350, or you have a 305 with a better cam in it. If you can read those numbers stamped on the block, go to www.mortec.com and try to match them up. www.nastyz28.com also has engine numbers on its website.

the block may of been decked too. the machine shop that i use replaces the vin after they machine it off, but you can tell it was stamped by hand.

Thanks guys, I have checked some numbers on the sites mentioned and it is showing up as the L03, but I will have to say that it has been decked because the numbers aren't stamped they are clearly written by hand with an etching tool or something. I have outrun a fixed up nova with a 327, I think, a 69 camaro with a 327, and numerous mustang gt's, not from the line but 45mph and up,and a friends conquest tsi but the speed limiter wouldn't let me complete dust him and that was 120mph.
