Quick stupid balancer question
With the old style balancers with timing pointers that are off to the side, the #1 TDC mark on the balancer should be in line with the crank keyway, no? Suspect my balancer is drifting and I want to be sure its still at least close to where it should be.
i was thinking a bit more than 10* but whatever it is it isn't in line with the key way. seem like that would of been a good way to do it so you could eye ball the mark and key way to see if you had a problem.

Just use a TDC locator and find TDC. Then look at your timing tab(between the water pump and Timing chain cover) and make sure it is lined up.

I have a newer style balancer with the mark made for the pointers in center so the TDC mark was made when I swapped my cam. I put the balancer on my old engine with the newer timing pointer along with the present one thats off to the side and the mark is still where it should be. Guess its my fault that the timing appears off. Mustve made a mistake the last time I set the base time...
It would have made sense if the older style mark on the balancer was in line with the keyway. Oh well, guess it made sense to someone to set it up the way it is.
