Car makes more sound than it runs ...WHY ?

Car makes more noise than it runs, why ?

Hi all, well i ve seen this case oftem and im not sure
why its caused.
I was testing a 84 Z28 Automatic Transmission,305
and i can really say that the car sounds more than it runs
i mean,you accelerate and:
1 It doesn't spin the wheels and can't do burn out
2 When you start driving the car's response is poor
and slow at the beggining but when you are cruising at
45 MPH or more you press the gas and you can feel it accelerating more.

The engine is smooth and you can feel it grow on RPM faster so i discard the engine plus has a real nice sound,i think this can be a tranny problem or a Torque converter problem.

The cars runs real nice but just for cruise, you can't start with burnouts or race it.

You can feel the car makin more noise than it runs, ive seen other cars at the same RPMS acceleranting way faster and with the same engines and trannys !

What you think ?
Thanx !

I will assume by this you mean the cars engine RPMS increase but the car is not responding as much as it should be to increased RPM's. My first guess would be a slipping tranny when this happens.

Also you shouldn't expect much if any burnout with a V6, 3500lbs and decent traction setup of these cars.

OM, I think it's a 305 car, and I'll second a tranny issue. Could be something as simple as low fluid. Start looking and see if anything is apparently wrong.

I'd start with changing the fluid and running some seafoam thru it to clean out the varnishing in the valve body
