I have been having a clutch disengagement problem since I installed my T5, Hays Flywheel and Centerforce DF clutch...The clutch has yet to disengage, no matter what I try - and I have tried it all. The entire assembly is now removed from the car and looks normal - as it should with zero miles on it.

I spoke with Centerforce and Summit Racing today to see if they could help...Centerforce was focusing on the Hays 30 lb. flywheel perhaps not being the proper thickness and causing an issue.

I also now see an "installation note" on the Summit Racing page for the Hays 10-530 flywheel that says, "Stock 5 and 6 spring clutch discs will not clear the flywheel bolts". The sales rep told me only to use the Hays flywheel with a Hays clutch. But, I have done a search and found that others have used the same Centerforce clutch and Hays flywheel without issue.....

My troubleshooting sort of pinpointed a possible issue with the clutch disk and/or flywheel, since the actuator and fork seem to move the proper distance and pedal feel seems normal. All parts are new and the system has been bled just to make sure.

So, my question is: is the Hays flywheel a likely culprit in my clutch disengagement woes

Are you converting from an automatic tranny or just replacing a clutch (and flywheel)?

I need to replace a clutch, and I've been reading a lot before I do it (so that I don't screw it up). From what I've read, one thing to check is if you have the throwout bearing installed correctly.

 

I called Hays today and they confirmed that their flywheel is NOT compatible with the Centerforce Dual Friction clutch, nor is it compatible with the stock GM clutch...it would be nice if they tell the World about this "minor" incompatibility issue...

 

I ran into this same problem. You've probably got a 168 tooth flywheel and what you need for the T-5 bellhousing is a 153 tooth clutch. I had to get a McCleod (spelling?) flywheel. Also be aware the starter is different between the two flywheel sizes....

 

That's just it...this is a stock size, 153 tooth steel flywheel listed for 86-93 305-350.

They should take the thing off the market if it only works with specific aftermarket clutches. According to Summit Racing, it does not even work with the stock GM clutch!

I'm guessing they designed it around their clutch systems and forgot to check tolerences with "stock" clutch setups...let's just sell it anyway, no one will notice...

 

What did you end up doing?? I have one and a hayes clutch and its not disengageing...
