Headlight motor or Relay
Headlight motor or Relay
My headlights for my bird dont seem to want to go up no matter how much i beg.....When i lift them manually and connect the switch and turn them off the motors do work to close them....I was succesfull of getting it to work after about a gallon of wd-40 once.Is it the relays that are having a bad connection or is the motor craping out???

I had the same problem, and it's a pain in the **** because you have to keep manually putting them up. If you need to drive at night and don't want to get hassled by The Man, disconnect the motors so they don't get put down all the time.
To test if that is the problem, try running a wire from the battery to the motors directly. One of the prongs should move it up, the other will put it down. If both the motors work when you do this, it's probably the relay or the headlight switch.
I found that it was the relay that failed on my car. It's a square module mounted on the driver side firewall. It has 5 prongs on one side, 4 on the other. I think Vader posted a picture showing what it looks like.
If you go searching through the junkyards, any Bird from 87-92 should have the same relay. I've got an 87 V6 and it was the same part as an 89 Trans Am. Don't buy it from a dealer, they wanted $150 for it. I paid $25 from a junkyard (and that's Canadian dollars too
).
