Please help with starter removal...

I've looked in the archives and all previous posts. I have everything unhooked from the starter but can't get it to drop. It's an 89 Iroc Tpi. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to get it "just right" to slide out? I can remove the solenoid if need be, but then I'm wondering how to get it all back in when it's reassembled? It looks like I need to slide it out toward the front since the flywheel and oilpan are in the way in back. But when I try this no matter how I rotate the thing the stud on the solenoid hits the LCA...please help me with any advice those of you who have done this! Thanks as always!
