msd being a pain if you use one come in
i just recently put my msd 6al back on my car after having it off for a while. seems like it did nothing. however its also running hotter too. wich is very uncomon for my car. i dont think ive ever seen over 180* with it.its now running 190*. i have a 160* stat and the fan turns on at 160 as well. could this just be a problem that happend to develop at the same time. also theres a slight skip at mid rpms as well that i started to notice.

its a stock vacuum adv distrubutor.
it think im gonna take it back off this weekend. i realy didnt want to but i guess thats the only sure way to see what the deal is. i will have to recrimp all my stock wires and stuff.lol. should have just left it alone it ran good before.

It had a 4 pin module but now you're replaced it with the MSD harness? Try reversing the polarity to the magnetic pickup terminals on the MSD.

cant realy do it because the harness i bought was like 25 bucks and to do that i would have to cut it. the female connectors are different size. they only go on one way.

I know, I have the same harness, it's the one that comes with the box. The MSD triggers on the rising edge of the reluctor signal, but I've seen quite a few 4 pin HEI distributors that produce a negative-going reluctor signal at firing time. In this case, the MSD triggers much too early on the rising edge, giving additional unstable advance which varies with RPM.

You don't have to hack up that harness if you don't want to, just rig something up. You could also compare your timing with and without the MSD.
