WIPER MOTOR?

On my son's 89 Iroc the wipers work but they won't shut off and the delay doesn't work either. There are a couple ways to get them to stop one is to shut off the car and then turn it back on, the wipers will wipe a few more times then shut off. Another is to unplug the power to the motor itself and again it will wipe a few more times and shut off. Last is to unplug the connections going to the wiper motor module and again it will wipe a few more times and then shut off. Any help would be appreciated.

On the wiper motor itself, there is a black cover. Under this cover is a circuit board that controls all of these functions. They frequently go out. Go to the junk yard and pick up a whole motor. It'll probably cost you around $25. They are pretty easy to change. If that doesn't fix your problem, it may be in the stalk. But since it will shut off after shutting the car off and restarting it, I would look at the motor itself first. Good luck.

Mine do the same thing. After disassembling the entire motor unit, I figured out why. There is a platic wheel with teeth on it, which a metal arm is supposed to catch. Well, the plastic wears down, the arm doesnt catch the wheel, the wipers stay on. A new unit is $70 from Autozone, thats what im gonna buy soon. I got one from the junk yard for $20 off an old 83 caddy. It works okay, but the pump for the fluid is broken. BTW, I don't recommend pulling the motor assembly apart; Its a pain in the a$$.

Well it's fixed. Went to the junk yard and got a whole new(used) motor for $25.00 bucks.Must of been something in the motor assembly. I tried the outer black cover first, the delay worked then but it still wouldn't shut off. Thanks guys for your help. I am glad it wasn't the switch on the column. That looks like a pain to change.
