Have you reset the timing lately? I had the same problem when I bought my car, turns out the timing had been set without disconnecting the timing control link on the firewall. It was hard to start, surged, and milage sucked! Even got the same codes.

Code 32: EGR. The egr is probably jsut plugged with carbon. It may also be stuck open, which would cause a crappy idle with low vacuum and smoke with a speed density system.
Code 54: Low voltage at fuel pump relay. Definatly worth checking out the relay if your having a hard time starting it. No fuel=motor don't do squat.

Code 54; Check fuel pressure! If the pump primes when you turn the key on (listen for pump noise) before you crank, relay is good.
If it doesn't, you will have to crank several times before the oil pressure switch (not sending unit, but switch next to oil filter) see's oil pressure and sends a sig to turn on pump.

I think my car may need a fuel pump relay or pump. My car tries to turn off when at idle, and sometimes runs crappy when I'm driving. By crappy I mean, I mash the pedal and nothing really happens. I get that code 32 sometimes but I always goes away.

iroc-ice, Could be! If you have to start it several times before it will stay running and it rev's up slow and seems to go nowhere, you probably have a pressure problem, especialy with TBI. It should be between 9-13lbs. Try to find someone with a pressure gauge might save some money. If you can't Auto Zone sell's one for about 49 bucks. That's a little more than the fuel pump itself.

I checked it awhile ago and it was fine. I checked it again about 4 days later and it was low, and wouldn't stay started. The reading was around 6-7 and would go any higher. Thats was before it cut off.

Too low! Mine was giving me hell at 7lbs. You need a new pump!
A new one will put out 13lbs and you'll think you got a new motor!! Bad news is the new pump only costs less than 50 bucks
(Weber brand from Napa) if you do it your self (it's a beotch). Dropping the tank and all, but with good tools and a lot of patience you can save 250 to 300 bucks on labor and parts mark-up. If you've got the money, get a shop to do it! and take the day off!
If you don't, get a buddy to help ya! The haynes manual #79019 that Auto Zone sells for about 15 bucks has all the inst. in it to do the job. It's for 1982-1992 Firebird but will also work on the camaro if you can't find the camaro book.

Yeah, what he said! (somebody SLAP ME)!
Just for fun let's have a do's and don't list!
Do's;
1. Keep plenty of rag's on hand.
2. Have band aid's ready.
3. Work in a well ventilated area.
4. Dissconnect the battery BEFORE you start
5. Have someone ready to go to the part's store if you need more stuff.
6. Use plenty of jack stands.
Don'ts;
1. Keep women away during the job! (Are you done yet?).
2. Keep children away " " " (Might hear wrong words).
3. Don't smoke (Unless your already ugly).
4. Don't wear anything you want to wear again.
If anyone can add to the list feel free to do so!

When I told the mechanics at the shop I work at that I needed a new fuel pump, they looked at with money in their eyes.
