Fuel System Question
I have an 84 Z28 with the L69 engine, i just bought an $80 Edelbrock fuel pump, part #1721 and it fits the engine, but it doesnt fit the compartment, do you guys know of any good aftermarket fuel pumps that will fit in my engine compartment. Also i noticed that the car has two fuel lines both going into the stock fuel pump, but one of the inlets are big and one of them are small, my mechanic said that the smaller one is an overflow line so if the pump starts pumping too much fuel it will send it back to the tank, is this true? because the edelbrock pump has one inlet and one outlet so what would i do with the overflow line, plug it? and if so what would happen if the pump started pumping too much fuel, where would it go?????

The smaller line is used to return excess fuel to the tank. If the new fuel pump doesnt have provisions for a return line, it isn't needed. The pump will only pull as much fuel as it needs. You could just plug up the return line. One downside to a returnless system is that they are more likly to vapor lock on hot days.

A stock one.
You don't need a "nice" one. It's a step backwards. It will do more harm than good. Just get a stock one, it's perfectly adequate, more than you need.
Some things, the stock ones are absolute crap; some things, they're the best you can get. In this case, especially if you don't want to be modifying lines and all that, stock is best.

thanks, i guess i will go with a new stock one, just one more question, the edelbrock says it produces 6psi, would that be too much and if so how would that harm the car? and what is the psi of a stock pump

6 psi will work. At around 8 psi the needle in the float bowl wont seat and youll run rich. The stock pump was probably in the 5-6 psi range.
