Ahh Crap!!
Ahh Crap!!
So I changed my oil today, no biggie everything normal (almost-I dropped the filter in the drain pan and got oil all over myself). Being the bright person that I am I went out and bought $32 worth of mobil 1 and put in my car- that has 130k miles on.
Problem is, I go half a mile and it over heats.
My question is, I have one quart of the mobil 1 left so can I mix that with 4 quarts of reg oil and be fine or just go with 5 quarts of reg.
I'll guess i'll be late to school again tomorrow, damn
Thanx

yeah.....mix it if you wanna **** your car up. First, once you go Synthetic, you can't go back. Second, it weakens the valve seals, etc. and you'll start to leak being you have 130K on the motor. Synthetic will get rid of little dumb noises, etc, but can cause other prob's too.

What's the question? That is, what does mixing Mobil 1 with regular oil have to do with an overheating episode? And further, do you have the overheating issue taken care of?
Unless you overheated it to the point that the motor is like crispy, you don't have to change your oil. Fix the overheating problem, and move on.
There's nothing wrong with mixing dinosaur juice and synthetic. In fact, you can buy exactly that from a number of the major mfrs. as "synthetic blend".
There's no reason you can't go back to dinosaur juice if you want to. Personally I don't see why it would ever make sense to do that, but there's no reason it can't be done.

Uh, just a thought, but did you overfill the crankcase? If you did that badly enough it could cause overheating. I've used Mobil 1 in several vehicles with various mileage on them and never had a problem, in fact, if you notice any temperature change at all it should be cooler. I'd check other things before you get rid of the synthetic, like the air dam, thermostat, water pump, fans, etc. It's probably just a coincidence and something crapped out when you changed the oil. I seriously doubt the oil is toast unless we're talking about overheating to the tune of 350+ degrees, but if it makes you feel better pour any mixture of the two in that you want.
Chevyboy, sorry man, but all that junk is just that. No flames intended, but there's no reason to discourage others from superior oil with myths. Synthetic doesn't cause any problems, but rather, it points out those that already exist.
