my 88 305 TBI rebuilit motor (LO3) has detonation under light throttle when a little more gas would probably make it downshift. Trans = 700r4. I would guess that it was at about 1600 RPM in D

The timing is set at 0 degrees.

I believe the motor is now 0.020 over. The engine was just rebuilt so that it would run again. Nothing fancy was done. ie no speed parts.

The knock count was about 20. So I am actually unsure if this is high enough to be a problem or not.

I've been trying to search but haven't found info.

I'm wondering if a rebuilt engine that is bored out a little needs the chip reprogrammed/tweaked. ???

It seems that it might but I'm not sure how much bigger my engine really is.

 

What do you mean the timing is set at 0*? You mean the cam was installed straight up?

 

Timing is set to factory setting with a timing light after disconnecting the brown wire (ESC)

The cam was never removed from the block.
