Removed AC, idea to run second fan automatically?

Hey would it be of any use to try and hook up a relay to turn the second fan on when the first fan goes on since I removed the AC? If I understand it right, the second fan only comes on when the AC is used, so now that I don't have that, the second fan shouldn't come on at all, but would it be a good idea to hook up a relay to turn the second fan on when it senses that the first fan is on?

sure, just wire both fans into the same relay.

Would that relay be able to support the added current?

only one way to find out.

but if you want both to come on at the same time, your gonna have to do something the equivalent of that anyways. so they get the same reading on/off

Well all I was going to do...hook a relay/switch (SPDT/DPDT?) so that when it senses power going to the primary fan, it would enable the secondary fan, but run off its own power source so as not to draw too much through the primary fan's relay. I forgot what the things are called...its late and its been awhile since I was into much electronics, but you can use them in a computer. Two prongs would go to the 12V source inside the computer and two prongs would go to a 120V AC source outside the computer, and when the switch sensed power on the 12V line, it would allow power to travel from the AC source prongs to the AC device prongs to turn on the AC device when the computer turned on (i.e. a waterpump for watercooling)..

Simply take the green/white wire on each of the fan's relays and wire it to ground, via a toggle switch or the OEM temp switch on the pass side head.

This way both will come on at the same time and you won't burn up the fan motors because each fan will still run off its own relay.

You could wire one to run all the time, and the other to come on at a certain temp. Autozone/O'Reilly's/Pep boys should have an adjustable fan controller. I used one on my firebird when I swapped to serpentine and electric fan. I left it at the default temp of 160, and it worked great, even with only one fan (from a V6 RS). I never had overheating problems after that. Makes for nice quick warm-ups in the winter too, when you really need that heater
