How good are the 400sbc factory heads? Casting#333882 I want to get some performance out of the engin should i change to a edelbrock,vortec,or any other head instead of putting money into the factory heads.

 

Get the Vortecs and have them drilled for the 400 steamholes. the 400 heads ar 76cc and a smog head at that. Not much in the performance arena IMHO.
Spend the money now and you'll have more fun later.

They're garbage. If you're going to build a 400, then you'll need something more than the Vortec's. TFS 23*, AFR 190/5, Brodix Track 1's/-8 or Canfields.
