Power Steering brace with headers
The old power steering brace mounted off an exhaust manifold stud that was raised. I have headers with header bolts, and no where to mount this to. I want to get rid of that design and get a new way to mount the power steering. I want to re-use my old power steering pump, but put a different mounting bracket on it. Does anyone make these, or can I grab one from a junkyard off a different type of SBC? Thanks

The stud is stock.
Make the spacer out of a piece of galvanized 3/8" water pipe.... a "pipe nipple" from Home Depot would be perfect. Cut it to the length such that its length plus the header gasket plus the header, equals the thickness of the stock exhaust manifold.
It's pretty senseless to go against the flow and re-invent the wheel, when it's that easy to just use what's already there.

I did the same as RB, my spacer is probably the same size but I can't be sure because I was lucky enough to find it in my toolbox and it fit. Now that I have determined the pump is in the correct position I will be removing the unsightly washers and making something a little more permanent.

On mine, it went back where it belongs. On the brackets in the pic.
Take it off? I suppose I could have; but I live in a permanent building. Why would I want to just hack up my car that way?

how did you make that power steering bracket. Did you cut the large AC one and bolt it to the support that mounts to the front of the heads??
Also, are those bolts in the front of the heads needed, (like do they go all the way through, or can they be left out?)

I guess this would be the closest to what I need.
Now, I have TPI, and I dont see that bracket you guys are bolting up to the first header bolt. Ive looked through all the boxes and bags and I have no braket like that. Anyone with TPI can lend an eye on this? I have another thread going, but some here have a little bit better picture of the PS pump.
rjmcgee, where did you get that braket that goes from the PS braket to the other braket bolting to the head?

Posted by a member on the Engine Swap forum. The only thing it doesn't show is the modification required to the top AC compressor bracket - cutting off the back leg that goes to the back bolt of the #1 primary.

I bought the headers off e-bay from a junkyard. They took them off a '92 camaro. The water pipe spacer works great though. Add a little black high-temp spray paint and it doesn't look too bad either.
