switching to electric fan from belt driven,,,,,, what do i need
i have an 83 camaro with a 305 and it has a belt driven fan. im looking to do a dual elecric setup but im not sure what i will need to get. i mean as far as switches and ****. the car has no emmissions or computers and i basically just want to rig them to run all the time but i have heard that the one fan is only for when you use the a/c, which i dont have(but plan to get within a year) is it simple to rig the fans o run all the time or should i just keep the belt driven fan? and if i take off the belt driven fan what do i do about the water pump.. does the fan just come right off or do i need a new water pump.. man reading this makes me feel like i dont know jack about cars..........
thanks in advance for you help guys

Swapping to electric fans is easy. TO hook up your fans, you'll need a 12 volt relay, which is about $5-$10. It should have a wiring diagram on it. It'll need a signal to turn on, so test and find the wire that comes on with your ignition. Run that to the relay for the signal and follow the supplied wiring diagram. A better alternative to having them run all the time is to just install a manual switch. It doesn't add any difficulty to the swap, and this way, the fans won't be running when it gets really cold and the engine needs to warm up. Just find a spot for it that you can easily reach while driving and wire your signal wire through it and to the relay. You'll need a working temp guage so you'll know when to turn it on and off. I'm not sure if you'll need one or two relays for your dual fan setup. Also, when you remove the stock clutch fan, you will need to get shorter bolts to hold the pulley on the water pump. Just go to a hardware store and get what you need. It's a pretty easy swap and worth doing.

definately worth the work. if you want to get really hi-tech go get a temp switch and connector from a boneyard and use this to turn the fan off/on.BTW dont try to run an electric fan without a relay. it will fry ignition switches, toggle switches etc.

There are also some adjustable thermostat switches that you can use. I think they are a relay that uses a temp probe mounted to the radiator as the signal to switch. And they have a **** so you can adjust the temp that the car runs at.
