More than it would cost net to sell your current car and buy a factory V8 car.

Harsh reality.

I agree with Five7. I'm not against engine swaps by any means, but, unless you're emotionally attached to your car, you might consider buying a factory V-8 car. Part of the reason I say that is 3rd Gen Camaros and, to a lesser extent, Firebirds are a dime a dozen in this area. I pass at least 5 car lots on my way to work every morning and everyone of them has a 3rd Gen Camaro for sale. Plus, there's a house on that route with a Camaro for sale out front.

Again, I have nothing against V-6's or engine swaps. It's just that a factory V-8 car will already be wired and equipped. And, since you are willing to go with a 305, you should be able to pick one up cheap.

Autotrader.com lists 15 Camaros, 1988-92, for less than $4000 within 15 miles of my house. Take this one, for example:

That's not what he said...

He said in effect, more than the difference between what you can sell your car for, and what you can buy a V8 car for.

Bottom line: if you're shopping this deal on price, sell your 6-cylinder car and buy a V8 car. You can't make the swap any cheaper than jsut swapping cars. It should be no more than $2k difference to go from your base model RS to a top-of-the-line Z28 or IROC or T/A or whatever.
