Engine Code #42

I have an 89 5.7 TPI Iroc
Some mornings when I start my car, it turns over, hesitates, then the Service Engine light comes on. If I drive it, it will run rough. If I turn it off and let it sit for an hour or two, it will then start fine. When I run the error code, it comes up at 42. Some mornings it will start fine and not cause any problems at all. This problem is extremely intermittant and extremely annoying. It may go for a week or two and not do it all. Just recently its happened the past two mornings. I have replaced the fuel pump [cutoff] relay and that did not fix it. Any other information would be greatly appreciated as the shop manual for the car does not tell me anything more.

Thanks,
Eric Kazmirek
