how much power am i making?
i am just about to drop in a carbed 350 into my 85 trans am; taking the Tuned port 305s place...
i know this question may be off topic, but can any one give me a good guess at about how much power i'll be making with this combo...
first of all its not neccessarily my choice of parts.. lol it was built for under 500 bucks with left over parts from my garage.
350, bored .060 over
ported and polished 305 heads
1 5/8" headers, 3" collectors and y-pipe, 3" american thunder (no cat)
edelbrock torker intake
holley 850 (yes i know..toooo big) mechanical sec. carb
with decent bosch, msd, and accel -plugs, wires, and distributor
any guesses on power and torque will be appreciated!! (you can gimme a guess on a 1/4 mile time too if u'd like)
(it will be mated to a TH350 with a 2700-3000rpm stall converter, 3.42 gears and 23.5"slicks....)

If you upgraded the valves to larger 350 sized ones 360 to 375 hp at the crank. If you used stock sized 305 valves it will make less.
Should run mid/ low 13's @103MPH. This combo should have a 3500stall 10" converter and 3.73's/4.10's with the short slicks. Find a dual plane intake for it.

heads
i ran the numbers on the heads, and they are either "high output" 283 or 305 heads, with a 58cc combustion chamber-(same as some of the aluminum vette heads if im not mistaken) and have 1.84, 1.50 valves..i think?? or something close to that.
i am eventually upgrading to a lower gear (most likely 4.10s)
anyone know of companies that make stall converters other then TCI and B&M??? if so let me know please.
thanks for the guess on H.P. -- if it makes that much id be very pleased

Without the cam specs it is hard to say. I would say you are in the 250 to 300 range at the most. Time to find a dyno.

What exactly is the head casting number, because the 283 and the 305 were made about 15 years apart and never had the same heads. Also the 58cc vette heads are aluminum and never came on anything other then the ZZ# crate engines.
