is there any way to tell the engine size besides usind the vin, because i found a 91 RS and the vin says its a v6 but it has duel exaust and the people selling it say it may not be the original engine. I cant go check myself because i live a state away, so i have to talk to them over the phone. i dont know if its a 3.1 v6 or a 5.0 v8. is there any way i could tell them to check over the phone. thanks.

 

There's casting numbers on the block that will tell you if it's a 305 or a 350.


However, if you just want to know v6 from v8, count the spark plug wires.

if you have the vin, you can go to your local chevy dealer and they can get you the build sheet from gmdealerworld or just all the rpo codes from the parts computer. how can they own the car and not know if it is a v6 or v8?

How about counting the number of cylinders (sparkplugs or terminals in the distributor)!

If they don't know whether it's a 6 or 8, you can forget about them finding the casting number on teh rear ledge of the block.

You could ask if they have a digital camera and email...
