Rod Installation

Does it matter which way I install these rods? I notice that the bearing seats are countersunk more on one side than on the other... is this for a particular reason?

Johnny,

YES! DEFINITELY! There is only ONE correct way to install con rods. The larger chamfer is supposed to be installed adjacent to the crank counterweights. If you had marked the rods before removal, you would have a good indication of the proper position of the new rods (or old replacements). Also, if the rods have oil spurt holes, they should be installed facing the bottom of the camshaft.

There are other marking means used by various OEM and aftermarket manufacturers and rebuilders, including arrows on the bolt bosses, dots, dimples, punch marks, etc., but the larger chamfer must mount to match with the crank throw fillet/radius.
