steering column blues

ok guys....ive had a steering wheel that has been dangerously loose..i dont mean has some play..i mean the whole thing moves in about a 5 inch circle...my brother(the mechanic) was trying to help me out by tightening it up for me...as soon as he took it apart he said it basically crumbled in his hands...so where im at now is looking for a replacement steering column..ive been to several junkyards who either dont have the car i need or the columns already gone...MY QUESTION IS..is there any other gm cars that have a steering column that i can use without having to modify things..i have an 89 firebird...no tilt, no radio controls, no airbags

<h1>Matt,</h1>

(That's BIG Matt for the rest of you...)

The upper column parts are common to many GM vehicles. You may have to use your existing column jacket and steering shaft with the upper bowl and bearing support from another vehicle to rebuild what you have.
