Does the knock sensor go into the heads or the block?

I'm putting a pre-86 engine into an '88. I've got a hole predrilled into my Sportman II heads for a sensor - but it's much larger than the threads of my knock sensor. Do I need an adapter for my knock sensor to make it fit there? OR - There is a hole fitted with a pipe plug in the actual block down by where the oil pan mates with the block - that one looks to be the exact size that the knock sensor fits - can I put it there?

Just need some advice here...

Thanks,

Steve

On my 90 TA,the knock sensor is located on the block on the pass side. The sensor that goes in the head is the fan temp sensor.

The knock sensor belongs at the bottom by the oil pan (Block drain). THe hole you're talking about sounds like it's for either the temp. sender for the gauge (drivers side), or the secondary fan switch on the other side!

Short block sitting on a stand. (Man, those Fast-Burn heads sitting on it look good!)
