305 stuttering/hiccupping

Over the last 4 days my 86IROC has started to 'hiccup' for lack of a better term. Usually comes in sets of 2 '*hic*hic*' then fine. usually occurs between 2-3000rpm. SES lite flashes but no code is set. Initially would only happen on 1st accelleration in gear after startup. Can't get it to happen in neutral. Last nite was 3xs in 15 min while sedately cruising @65mph(getting worse). This is my daily driver & I'd prefer to prevent trouble before actual failure. Any notions where I might could start looking?? Thanks in advance.

Well first of all Welcome to thirdgen, youll find some of the nicest guys here who are always willing to help. first of all give us some more info on the car. the best thing to do is to list your specs in the signature which you can set up by clicking on profile and tying it in, after seeing what you got(include mileage too if you can, i forot in my sig) this way here we can all have a good idea as to what you have and what could be the problem

like i said welcome to the boards and dont be afraid to ask thats what we come here for

Aha, yes I imagine some specifications might be a bit useful here. I think I've got the signature thing figured now. She's got 126K on the OD. K&Ns as well (left them out). Never been able to ID the mystery chip - that'll teach me to not write crap down when buying a car. Hope this helps & thanks 4 the effort.

just a thought, might want to check your ignition parts for arcing and sometimes when there is bucking and stuttering the fuel pump could be on its way out. I've finally figured out to check everything before i go and start replacing parts.

ok, no arcing that I can detect - not that my skills @ such are necesarily up to the task. Fuel pump still questionable as I freely admit not having a clue how to check that. I did switch back to the factory chip & get less of the trouble but still ocasionally, last time she blipped so hard it cut the radio off & on - something electrical?? thanx 4 the sugestions folks.
