What does the egr do and why is it so important.

What does the egr do and why is it so important.
and if i remove the egr walls behind the throttle body will that mess the egr up .or will it just free up a lot of airflow for me

Keep it there unless you want problems. If you don't watch it and you disable EGR you could run into problems like knock. When that happens your timing will be turned down low and you'll loose lots of power and have no throttle responce. The right way to get rid of EGR is to reprogram the chip for less advance and a few other little stuff. Don't just unplug.
