Thermo Time Sensor

The connector to the TTS is cracked off. If the connection is poor, will it affect the way the car runs when cold, or just affect how the car starts (and the first 8 seconds or whatever)?

My car (88 GTA 305, stock) starts up fine, but if I drive it before it has warmed, it stumbles. After that it's fine. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Kevin

I thought you were probably referring to the cold start control. Yes, an inoperative control will affect starting, but not nearly as much now as in colder weather (below 40°F). You can repair it, or you can get a PROM burned to eliminate the need for a cold start control and injector altogether.

Will it also affect the way the car runs in the first few minutes, or just starting?

It looks more an more that I am going to have to buck up and get involved in PROM burning, since I know of no way to get an 89 PROM for my car. Probably not a bad skill to have anyway.

Thanks.

If my information is correct, the cold start control will only operate the cold start valve (injector) for the first few seconds of cranking. Once started, the service injectors must provide all fuel. If the CTS is reporting a correctly to the ECM, the fuel tables for open loop mode should be adequate to operate the engine until the O² is active. If you have a custom PROM, some of the fuel tables may not have been tailored for all these conditions.

Writing your own parameter tables is not difficult, and can be satisfying.

Thanks for the input. I don't drive the car often, and not much since last fall. The car ran poorly after last winter and merely changing the fuel filter solved the problem. I'm going to start there.

Thanks
