positioning the flywheel?

hi guys, i have to put a 350 in my 87 rs camaro, the engine is an ex pontiac 82 auto tranny, i'm installing on my T-5 manual set up (to replace my punny little gutless oil burner 305). my question is:
there is an extra hole on each part (crankshaft flange and flywheel) should they go aligned or opposite to each other?
i've seen all kinds of weird combinations.
thanks to all for your help
fernando.

if i understand what you're doing correctly, you can't use the flywheel that was in your car on the 2 piece seal 350. it sounds to me like the extra hole is for the dowel on the crank.

same here, 82 and 87 are non-compatible. Plus, the bolt patterns are designed to go on in only one way. the bolt holes will not line up any other way.

ok sorry i wasn't clear, my 305 is from a 79 oldsmobile, so the flywheel is the type for the 2 piece seal.
the new one is a 82 pontiac 350 same 2 piece seal, i mean the flange is exactly the same, it has 6 threaded holes and an extra hole threadLESS, and the flywheel has the exact same arrangement, so how do they go? those extra holes are they lined up or opposed?
thanks to all for your time.
fernando.

They should line up. The hole in the crank is supposed to contain an alignment dowel for attaching the flywheel properly.

the old style 2 piece seal flange on the crank is the half round and half square (i wander why that weird shape, maybe for balance)and i have never seen any dowell pin on them, and you can position your flywheel in any position you want=6/60degrees=360 because the threaded holes are perfectly symetrical i believe that the new 1 piece wich is round has the dowell pin (not my case)maybe it has something to do with internally or externally balanced engines?
i'm getting a headache.
thanks again....fernando :d
