Size of temp sensor hole in cylinder head?

Does anyone know the size of the hole in the cylinder heads that the coolant temperature sensor goes into? My headers are close to the sensor and I'm wanting to put a 90* fitting there to move it further away.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

I believe it's 3/8" NPT. Much older heads had 1/2" NPT.

The Ape is right. Pre-80's heads typically had a 1/2" NPT hole, but yours are probably 3/8" NPT.

The potential problems with installing an elbow or other fitting is that you may move the sensor out of the coolant stream, and that an elbow may protrude from the head nearly as much as the sensor.

If you don't mind altering the wiring harness a bit, you might be able to find a location on the intake or opposite head.

BTW - Where's your crown?

Some of the newer t-stat housings have a bung hole for a sensor. Would this maybe be a good place for the coolant temp sensor??

Good idea Vader. I'll try looking on the intake to see if there are any spare ports to put the sensor. I had wondered if the elbow would cause problems as the sensor wouldnt be in the direct flow of coolant.
