Scratch in my Clyinder Head Deck (Is it fatal)
I just got a set of L98 aluminum cylinder heads that have about $600 worth of work including the deck being milled down to 55cc combustion chambers from the original 58cc.
I noticed that on 1 of the deck surfaces there are a couple of marks, scratchs, whatever you want to call it. The mark that concerns me is 1/4" long and maybe 1mm deep. It runs close to the combustion chamber but not into it. The mark ends a little before where the gasket ends at the combustion chamber. Being that this head was previously milled I am afraid that it really can't be milled much more.
I really would like to know what you guys think about this and if anyone has every had this problem (being aluminum is such a soft metal). I know a machine shop will be the ones who can really tell me if its repairable, but I won't be able to bring it to one for awhile.
Thanks

you could get it surfaced to remove it i doubt if it would make any differance, but i'd try to get it resurfaced.

Ede,
Is surfacing different than milling? I ask this because how much more can they take off without making my cc's to small. So you don't think it's that big of a deal. I just don't want to have to end up buying a new head and having it reworked because of this.
thanks
