sounds like a ghost... what is it?
I have this strange noise in my engine compartment (beside the whining from the blower... 
)
It sounds like I have a ghost in there. I can hear this whine best between 1,5-2k rounds. could it be the water pump?

I'm not sure what a ghost sounds like; so I don't think I can help mcuh.
However, if you take a piece of heater hose, and stick one end in your ear and probe around with the other end while somebody sits in teh car and pushes the gas and gets the engine to the RPM where it makes the noise, you might be able to find it.
