The site administator, Dirk T., is the "owner", inasmuch as anyone can truly own anything on the web. If you go through the front door of the site, you can find the email link to Dirk in several places. He is responsible for the founding of this site and its maintenance. Without his efforts, none of this would exist.

If you ever see a post from the Username "Dirk", that's him.

if he pays the bills, has the rights to the name, and deals with the technical behind the scenes stuff, then he "owns" it just as much as you "own" your car..

Since the first post was from 2001, you can easily image that much has changed, to include Dirk's involvement.

Re: Who owns this site?

IB owns the site which is a large conglomerate that buys out founder's interest in sites. They own 70 some auto sites like this one ranging in many auto topics and brands. In reality they are a ad agency using free contributors like yourself to create interest.

"Internet Brands" owns several RC airplane hobby sites as well , the biggest being "RC Universe" . The best thing about IB is that when they bought RCU , they left all the existing moderators in place and only focused on making actual improvements to the site . It's still a work in progress , but I applaud IB's efforts to attempt to improve the lacking areas of RCU .

..... My only complaint would be the off topic ads . When looking at a site devoted to our beloved third gens , do we really need to see such gems as ;

" David used to be a chevy guy , here's why he changed "

I swear I've seen flippin tampon ads on the RC site . Now , since the RC hobby is populated by 99% males , I'm not quite sure who they think they're advertising to ???

Course , I'd sooner buy the box of tampons than any goddamn ford

Re: Who owns this site?

i was wondering something earlier today:

if IB (or any company for that matter) makes money from selling advertisement spots on the site then shouldn't moderators be compensated for keeping order and such?

As a site owner WHY in world would compensate anyone (moderators) for work and time they are willingly and efficiently already doing for FREE?

Re: Who owns this site?

I can only speak for myself, but being asked to be a moderator is a bit of an honor. I don't wish to be paid. Frankly, the site pretty much runs itself. It's only infrequently that I step in and it's usually because of the same member(s). All's cool for me, but I was in education for 30 years, so sharing what I know seems natural enough.

Re: Who owns this site?

There is one Admin that over sees a number of sites and each site's Admin that is a paid employee. He is more of a computer, mission statement,ad,sales kind of guy.The more involved you get,the less direct contact you have with the topic of the forum. Also the less time you have to post on the topics. It becomes more proof reading, politics,Mod room postings, spam prevention.Privileges for section mods is different than for global forum mods which isn't as much privileges for forum Admin's.

You guys are right.Burn-out because it is voluntary mods and as I said you find out you don't have the same opportunities to post or say what you would normally do as just being a regular member.

Well I might as well admit it,IB and I do have some history me being a Admin.

Re: Who owns this site?

None of the moderators got paid when Dirk was making the profits. Now that IB is making the profits, why would we expect it to be different?
