turned the key and NOTHING. need help bad
first let me tell you what i have done.this is a 1991 z28. I replaced the engine in the car with a new 383. I replaced the factory gauges with all auto meters. Now, I just went out and got ready for that first turn of the key for the new engine.......and I got nothing. The fuel pump does prime and I have fuel pressure, the lights work. the fan works. I get 12V to the big terminal on the starter. I get NO SES light when I turn the key to run or start. I checked the bulb and its good. I also get nothng from the SES light when I jump A to B for test mode. the key/lights on chime does not shut off while the key is in the run postion even if the door is closed and lights are off. I jumped the big terminal on the starter soleniod to the small one and the the starter spins, I jumped the other big terminal to the small one and the starter engaged but doesnt spin. Is this correct? the starter and battery are BRAND NEW. what am I missing here, I have done so much work to this thing that I must have missed something. Could the ECM have took a dump on me? its been a year since it was running.

I use a remote solenoid so my set-up may be different, but I have to jump 2 terminals with a jumper wire on my starter solenoid in order for it to both engage and turn.

I don't know if this would apply in your case although I have seen it happen several times in the past. But you never know!!!!!!!! Take a good look at the black connector on the ignition coil and make sure that the other end is connected to the ignition module in the distributor and that the MAT connector is not connected to the module. The connectors are the same.

How would I check the VATS? IS there a way to bypass it? I did a few more checks today and didnt get anywhere
the ECM is being grounded. I checked the pin outs for continuity.
ECM is getting 12V. Is has got to be something electrcial. everything else works fine. I just cant get the starter to work when I turn the key. I no longer have a securuty light since I put new gauges in my car so I dont know if it is the VATS. I jumped the ppl ad grn wires on the neutral switch and still nothing.the fuse block is getting power also. Im puling my hair out here.
Does anyone have a diagram of the ign and starter setup? I thought it may be something on my starter but it is almost impossible to cross any wires down there. I have 1 small wire on the small threaded shaft. It is a purple wire I believe. Is that the same purple wire that goes to the nuetral switch? The other treaded shaft has about 4 wires going to it all with fusible links on them. If it matters, the lights dont even dim at all when I try and crank it so there is no draw at all on the system.

its fixed. It was the starter relay in the drivers kick panel. I jumped it and it fired right up. Nothing like the sound a new engine with the LM on it. Now I just have to mess with the timing.
trickster, thanks for the info you provided me on other threads that I found using the search buttom(HINT HINT TO OTHERS)
