burning coolant.. big problems

well.. I brought my truck in to the local dealership.. as I know a few guys there. I wanted to check underneath for leaks.. as I knew the power steering pump was leaking a little. everything looked good. just a bit of oil where the mech fuel pump cover is. note: a few weeks ago I had to top off the coolant reserve which I found funny.

so anyway I back off the hoist ramps and pull out. the guys thought they smelled antifreeze but I didn't hear them yell at me. then I let her rip on the main street pulling out and all I saw was white smoke in the rearview. I get a call from my boss 5 mins later saying they called him and where trying to reach me to let me know. I took it easy all the way home.. seems to run fine. now I don't know what to do from here.

the guy told me to let it cool down and remove the plugs. disable the ignition and injectors and have someone crank it over and look for antifreeze coming out of a cylinder. he said it could be intake gasket which he doubts(although I 've had to retorque the stainless bolts on it quite a few times). or it could be cracked block cracked head or bad head gasket. the engine has 8000kms on it since it's fresh rebuild by an engine builder. it's been stored in a garage for the winters. it's had 6 oil changes. i don't know what to do know I'm so ticked off I could take a sledge to the thing.

btw it's edelbrock aluminum heads & intake if that means anything.

Start with a compression test and a cylinder leakdown test (buy or rent the equipment if you don't have it). Post your findings here.

As a matter of fact, since you mentioned truck which is not a third gen, PM me with your findings.

ok.. I pulled the plugs out tonight. there's not one plug that really looks different from the others. I was told that the one getting coolant would be shinny. although I drove home without getting on it. I don't think it smoked the rest of the way home.. at least if it did it wasen't enough for me to notice in the rear view.

should I do compression test from here?

thanks

Maybe a pressure test on the coolant system?

only thing is I've never seen what a plug looks like after burning coolant. all I know is all the plugs the insulator was pretty much super clean white. the round part after the threads was black on all of them. unless they are all eating coolant? is that possible?

no one have any opinions at this point? I probably won't have time to do a cp check t'ill mon or tuesday.. i just find it weird that all plugs are pretty much super white around the insulator. there's probably only about 1000kms on those plugs though.. is it possible the intake has a coolant leak and it was going in all cylinders?

In my experience, that's exactly how they look. They get a perfectly steam cleaned appearance to them. Good luck, and let us know the results of the leakdown test.
