What are possible causes for a repetitive squeeking coming from the wheel??

It's been making this noise for a while now; it sounds like a wheel bearing noise coming from the front wheel (driver's side), but I jacked up the car to turn the wheel by hand, and I didn't hear anything abnormal.

There seems to be a good bit of play up and down, but it's not because of the spindle nut coming loose (it appears to be tight enough).

I've had other wheel bearings go bad before, and it's been obvious then; they get louder over time, and I can hear it grind when I turn the wheel by hand (I've replaced those).

I can't figure out what's making that frickin' squeek. Anybody have any thoughts on this???

Thanks!

Could be brakes, but I would think the sound would stop when I apply the brakes coasting down. It doesn't seem to make any difference whether I'm using the brakes or not.

(Whoops, this is on a '62 Bonneville btw. Guess I shoulda mentioned that earlier Drum brakes all around)

Heh.

A squeak huh? Unusual. Check to make sure the backing plate isnt rubbing on the drum at all, and only other thing I can think of is the bearings. That is if it isnt coming from the engine

I had the same problem today. The noise stopped when I hit the brakes, so I didn't think that was the problem. Checked the pads, though, and that's where it was coming from. I'll be working on that tomorrow.

Well, I might replace the bearing anyway, just to rule out that possibility.

I could be way off, but check and make sure that the shocks and everything like that is lubed up. Thats what it sounds like to me.
