will 9 bolt axleshafts go in a 10 bolt?!?!?!

hey, im lookin to upgrade my 10 bolt posi unit to the slp take off unit but it uses 28 spline axles and im pretty sure since i have an 87 gta that i have only 26 spline axles. Is it possible to put the axleshafts from a 9 bolt disc rear into a 10 bolt drum rear and make it work, since the 9 bolt has 28 splines?!?!?! i know its a 7 3/4 rear as opposed to the 7 1/2 10 bolt i have in the car now, but i dont wanna go out and spend more $$$ if i dont have to! if it doesnt work, please let me know and if i have to get new axleshafts with 28 splines where should i buy them from that is cheap but strong??? i went to the junkyards but found crap. what are some good companies tha sell em cheap????

9-bolts have 26 spline axles, and nope, they're not interchangeable with 10-bolts, like madmax said.

10 bolt axles are held in with a c-clip. 9 bolt axles are held in with an external mounting flange like a ford 9".

The only thing compatable between those diffs are the external mounts. Inside they are completly different differentials with nothing interchangable.

You can get very good aftermarket 10 bolt 28 spline axles from www.tomsdifferentials.com or www.drivetraindirect.com for $125 each. Part number KAC7-A7. They'll work in all 10 bolt third gen diffs from 82-92 as long as you have a 28 spline carrier.
