How much for heads and cam???

Lets say I just wanted to do a budget heads/cam upgrade to hold me over until I rebuild the whole motor and supercharge it.

About how much can I do this for? Can I get the stuff used easily?

And is it even worth it to do on a stock TPI?

This summer I plan on doing full exhaust, T56, and a few little odd-ends to get it into the high 13's on the motor.

If I can also do heads and cam rather easily and relativly cheaply, I might think about that too.

BTW, I talk about doing heads and cam together because, as I understand it, they need to be paired.

The prices all go with what you want out of the setup. How fast you want to go will determine how much it may cost you.

The bare-bones cheapest way to do heads/cam would be to purchase a used set of heads off of one of the classified sections here or at other sites. I've seen L98 heads for as low as $250, but the price goes up with porting, large diameter valves, or other improvements. Meanwhile, camshafts can be had by the same route, or you can shop Summit or Jegs for generic "no name" camshafts which may run you under $130 or so.

On the upper end of the head/cam scale, you can save your pennies for a fully modified set of AFR aluminum heads which may set you back to the tune of over $1600, and pair that up with a name brand SLP cam, or a Lingenfelter cam for about $320, or a TPIS cam for up around $375.

Unfortunately, much of this is a "you get what you pay for" sort of deal, but this will at least let you know what sort of range you are looking at.
