whats the diff in pont. 350 & chev. 350
What is the difference between a pontiac 350 and the chevy 350?
and why does the rebuilt kit cost so much more?
Thanks

That is the biggest difference. COST !!!
Why is the pontiac/olds more...cause they are not a popular to rebuilt as CHEVY and that pesky ford crap. The more a company makes the less the price usually is. With zillions of edelbrock heads beeing sold daily for Chevy you may sell 2 pair or pontiac heads to every 100 Chevy heads and 75 ford heads. Catch the trend here ? Have a nice day.

I'm going to assume the pontiac 350 is relatively the same as a buick 350, cause I know a little about the buick.
The buick 350 has a smaller bore and longer stroke than a 350 chevy, that's probably the biggest difference aside from being a totally different block.
It can make power, but not cheaply, any motor can make power, but IMO, it'd be cheaper to buy and build a chevy 350 and retrofit it. And you'd have better results with the chevy.
Dare I call it a boat anchor? Yes, I dare to.

Hunt down a 455 or at least a 400 pontiac motor and throw the right parts at it and whoop some chevy 350 as@!!!
It will cost you more to do it and the same money into a 350 (383 coversion) will have you done though.
Nothing wrong with staying away from a chevy 350 though because being fast and being different will definatly make your car stand out!
If I ever did a motor swap to my 3rd gen 'bird it would definatly be a 455 done right with a 2004R backing it. Sorry, but at the shows it will win because it's not a pontiac with a chevy motor (the older guys will dig it) and in the go dept I could easily kill BB chev power with the right parts over them ($$$) but it will definatly be worth it imo.
Sure I feel a little sore that the chevy or 'gm' motor is the only one available today. Diversity is exciting and its too bad it's not cost effective.
