Emissions Fail
Emissions Fail
Hi guys,I took the emissions test the other day and failed...
Passed everything except the CO reading.
Here are the numbers:
HC=41....the limit is 68ppm
NO=134...the limit is 751ppm
CO %=1.33.the limit is .38
This is pissing me off...I have a new GM(350) 300hp crate motor(2 years old), a 1 month old brand new CATCO converter(I don`t have the air tube connected to the smog pump, all the emissions are hooked up though. My air tubes were removed a long time ago. I have heard of guys passing even with a punched converter, so I don`t think the missing air tubes should really affect me failing the test) . My timing is at 10 degrees. Did an oil change 1 month a go.Thinking of putting that Guranteed to Pass Emissions stuff in my gas tank the next time I go. Does that stuff really work??. My fuel pressure is set at 48psi. What gives ???...Any help would be appreciated. I have a Paxton supercharger also. but it is disconnected. I didn`t want to run it for the test.I have the stock setup
(air cleaner assembly with the dual air filters. After I took the test the mechanic said sometimes it is better to bring it in cold than warm up the engine(better chance of passing). I also read in the paper that if it fails at one place take it to another and it could pass. They did a test and went to 4 different places and 2 auto shops failed it and the other 2 passed it.
What gives??? any help would be appreciated

Also after cleaning up there, run your gas guage down to 1/8 of a tank and dump a couple galls of coleman lantern fuel in.
It's gas (white gas) and runs clean.

Your HCs are pretty high. The cat really needs that extra air. Turning down the fuel pressure is a good idea, too.
There are different ways of testing emissions out there. The guys who pass without all the equipment are not being subjected to the more strict methods.

I had a 1987 chev half ton with a 350 TBI. The thing had almost 300,000km on it, had the nick name 'Smokey' because it smoked so much, never did a tune up, NOTHING, just brought it in for a laugh, but decided to dump a bottle of that 'Guarunteed To Pass' stuff in the the gas tank and guess what?.....IT PASSED! Now it could be that trucks have higher failing cutoff points or something but nevertheless 'Smokey' passed because of that stuff.
